Understanding Training
StandShare includes a built-in training system that helps organizations ensure every worker is prepared before they step behind a concession stand. This page explains how the training system works from every perspective -- whether you are a family member completing an assignment, a coordinator tracking progress, or an admin building training content.
Key Concepts
Modules
A training module is a single unit of training. Each module typically includes:
- A video (hosted on StandShare, YouTube, or Vimeo)
- An assessment -- a quiz, an attestation checkbox, or both
- A passing score that determines whether the learner has completed the module successfully
Modules are the building blocks of training in StandShare. An admin creates modules, adds video content, and writes quiz questions. Learners watch the video and then take the assessment.
Programs
A training program is an ordered collection of modules grouped together. For example, an organization might create a "New Worker Orientation" program that includes three modules:
Program: New Worker Orientation
Module 1: Food Safety Basics
Module 2: Cash Register Training
Module 3: Emergency Procedures
Programs let admins bundle related modules so they can be assigned as a set rather than one at a time.
Assignments
An assignment is the link between a training module (or program) and a specific person. When an admin assigns training to a worker, StandShare creates an assignment record that tracks:
- Which module or program was assigned
- Who it was assigned to
- Whether it is required or optional
- The due date (if any)
Assignments appear on the learner's My Training page, where they can see what is pending and what they have already completed.
How Training Works: The Learner's View
Here is the typical flow for someone completing a training assignment:

Watching the Video
When you open a training module, the video plays at the top of the page. StandShare divides the video into segments and tracks which segments you have watched. A progress bar below the video shows your progress visually.
Key details about video watching:
- You cannot skip ahead beyond what you have already watched (for uploaded videos). This ensures you actually view the content.
- Progress is saved automatically. If you close the page and come back later, you pick up where you left off.
- External videos (YouTube or Vimeo) are embedded directly. The same completion rules apply.
Taking the Assessment
Once you have watched enough of the video (if the module requires it), the assessment section unlocks. There are several types of assessments:
- Multiple choice questions -- Select one or more correct answers.
- True/false questions -- Pick true or false.
- Matching questions -- Match items on the left with items on the right.
- Attestation -- A simple checkbox confirming you watched and understood the content.
After submitting, you see your score immediately. If you pass (meet or exceed the passing score), the module is marked complete. If you do not pass, you can retry -- up to the maximum number of attempts the admin has configured.
Due Dates and Required Training
Some assignments have a due date. If the due date is within the next seven days and you have not completed the training, the assignment card shows a "Due soon" warning in red.
Assignments marked as Required display a red "Required" label. These typically must be completed before you are eligible to work events.
How Training Works: The Admin's View
Admins have full control over training content and can monitor completion across the organization.
Creating Modules
Admins create modules from the Training Modules management page. For each module, an admin can configure:
- Title and description
- Video content -- Upload a video file directly, or link to a YouTube or Vimeo URL
- Segment count -- How many segments the video is divided into for progress tracking
- Assessment questions -- Add any combination of multiple choice, true/false, matching, and attestation questions
- Passing score -- The minimum percentage needed to pass the quiz
- Maximum attempts -- How many times a learner can retake the quiz (set to 0 for unlimited)
- Shuffle questions and options -- Randomize the order to discourage memorization
- Require video first -- Whether the learner must watch the full video before the assessment unlocks
Creating Programs
Admins can group modules into programs from the Training Programs management page. A program has a title, description, and an ordered list of modules. When a program is assigned, the learner sees all of its modules on their training page.
Assigning Training
Admins assign training from the Training Assignments page. Each assignment specifies:
- A module or program
- The person it is assigned to
- Whether it is required
- An optional due date
The system prevents duplicate assignments -- you cannot assign the same module or program to the same person twice.
Tracking Completion
Admins can view completion data for any module, including:
- How many people have completed it
- Individual completion dates
- Quiz scores and attempt counts
Completion data can be exported to CSV for reporting or compliance purposes.
Certificates
When a learner completes a training module, StandShare records a completion with a timestamp. This completion serves as the learner's certificate of training. Completions are tied to the specific module and person, and include the date completed.
Admins can view and export completion records at any time. Learners can see their own completed trainings on the My Training page, where completed modules show a green checkmark and the completion date.
